AI Phrase Correction: How It Works and How to Adjust It

AI Phrase Correction

aInspired uses AI to automatically detect and fix errors in your typing. Here's how it works and how to customize it.

How It Works

  1. As you type, aInspired watches for a brief pause in your typing (about 2.5 seconds by default).
  2. When you pause, the AI analyzes the text near your cursor.
  3. If it finds a potential improvement (spelling, grammar, phrasing), a correction bubble appears above the keyboard.
  4. Tap the bubble to accept the correction, or just keep typing to dismiss it.
The AI only corrects text near your cursor -- it doesn't modify anything you've already moved past.

What It Corrects

  • Spelling mistakes
  • Grammar errors
  • Awkward phrasing
  • Missing or incorrect punctuation
  • Common typos and autocorrect mistakes

Adjusting Phrase Correction

Changing the Idle Delay

The delay before corrections appear can be adjusted:

  1. Open aInspired Settings.
  2. Go to Typing > Phrase Correction.
  3. Adjust the Correction Delay slider.
- Shorter delay: Corrections appear faster but may feel intrusive. - Longer delay: More time to finish your thought before corrections appear.

Changing the Effort Level

The effort level controls how powerful the AI model is for corrections:

  1. Go to Settings > Effort Level.
  2. Adjust Phrase Correction Effort.
- Low: Fast, handles basic errors well. - Medium: Better with complex sentences and technical terms. - High: Best quality corrections using the most capable AI models.

Disabling Phrase Correction

If you prefer to type without AI corrections:

  1. Go to Settings > Typing > Phrase Correction.
  2. Toggle AI Phrase Correction off.
You'll still have access to traditional spell-check suggestions in the suggestion bar.

On-Device vs Cloud Correction

aInspired can correct text both on-device and using cloud AI:

  • On-device correction uses a small AI model running directly on your phone. It's fast and works offline, but handles only basic corrections.
  • Cloud correction sends your text to more powerful AI models for better results. This requires an internet connection and uses your daily quota.
The keyboard automatically chooses the best option based on your settings and available quota.

Privacy Note

When cloud phrase correction is active, the text near your cursor is sent to an AI provider for processing. This text is not stored permanently. For sensitive fields (passwords, banking apps), phrase correction is automatically disabled.
