Terminal and SSH Mode

aInspired includes a specialized terminal mode designed for developers and power users who use SSH, terminal emulators, or code editors on their phone.

What Is Terminal Mode?

Terminal mode adapts the keyboard layout for command-line and coding use. It provides easy access to special keys and characters that are essential for terminal work but hard to reach on a standard keyboard.

How to Enable Terminal Mode

1. Open aInspired in any terminal emulator app (like Termux, JuiceSSH, or ConnectBot).
2. aInspired may automatically detect the terminal context and offer to switch.
3. To manually enable it: tap the keyboard mode icon in the toolbar and select Terminal.

Or set it permanently for specific apps:

1. Go to Settings > App-Specific Settings.
2. Select your terminal app.
3. Set the keyboard mode to Terminal.

Terminal Mode Features

Special Key Row

Terminal mode adds a row of commonly used keys above the standard keyboard:

• Tab -- Essential for autocomplete in shells
• Ctrl -- For keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Z, etc.)
• Esc -- For Vim, nano, and other terminal editors
• Arrow keys -- Navigate through command history and text
• Pipe (|), tilde (~), backtick () -- Quick access to frequently used terminal characters

Quick Character Access

Common programming symbols are easier to reach:

• Brackets: [], {}, ()


• Slashes: /, \


• Quotes: single ', double ", backtick


• Operators: &, |, >, <, $`

Tips

• Use Ctrl+C to interrupt running commands.
• Tab twice in most shells to see autocomplete suggestions.
• Arrow keys let you scroll through command history without retyping.
• Terminal mode works alongside all other aInspired features -- you can still use voice transcription, swipe typing, and AI chat while in terminal mode.
